About the Artist
About Maureen Egan Springfield
I am a painter working in oils and acrylics, blending impressionistic and contemporary styles. Light, especially reflective light, is at the heart of everything I paint, whether I'm working en plein air, capturing wildlife, or exploring portraiture and still life. I find beauty in the everyday and the overlooked, the way light falls on water, the stillness of a heron, the quiet drama of an ordinary moment transformed by paint.
My love of art began in Haddonfield, New Jersey, where I grew up in a lively household of ten siblings. I saved money from paper routes to pay for art lessons at Sanski Art Studio, and in high school I took the train into Philadelphia on Saturdays to study at Moore College of Art and Philadelphia College of Art. I eventually earned my BFA and Kâ12 Art Education Certification from Moore College of Art and Design.
For nearly 30 years, I shared that passion as an art teacher, most memorably at Brookwood School in Thomasville, Georgia, where I taught everything from 6th grade art to AP Art. Watching students discover their own artistic voices was one of the greatest gifts of my life.
In 2021, I retired from teaching and moved to Springville, Alabama, where I now paint full time. The Gulf Coast of Florida continues to inspire me deeply. Its light, water, and wildlife find their way into my work again and again.
Welcome to Impressions By Maureen. I hope my paintings bring the beauty of the natural world into your home.
