Blue Crabs - Original Oil Painting

Blue crabs have long fascinated me for their vivid coloration, complex structure, and the way their forms shift between strength and delicacy. In this painting, I was drawn to a grouping of crabs caught in a moment of stillness—overlapping forms that reveal layers of shell, limb, and color interacting within a confined space.

Rather than focusing on a single subject, the composition explores the relationship between multiple crabs and the visual rhythm created by their arrangement. I worked through layered brushwork to capture both the texture of the shells and the subtle shifts of light moving across the stacked forms.

This original oil painting is presented in a handcrafted floating frame made from stained poplar, built in collaboration with my husband, a woodworker. The frame is selected to complement the painting while keeping the focus on the work itself.
